Renesse has traditionally been known as a seaside resort. In recent years the village has developed into a real family seaside resort. The lords of Renesse were men of influence. Their castle, Moermond Castle, still exists and you will encounter it on this cycle route. Unfortunately, virtually nothing of the interior has been preserved due to the damage caused by the flood disaster.

Scharendijke has grown from a small hamlet into the cream of the crop for water sports enthusiasts. Then you move into the country. Cycle through the Zeeland polders and along the canals to Serooskerke. Lord Alard’s children founded a village that they called Sheralardskindskerke, later corrupted to Serooskerke. The dike broke in this village in 1953, causing the Schouwen polder to flood. New dikes created the De Schelphoek nature reserve, a beautiful nature reserve that attracts many birds.

You cycle along the Oosterschelde to Burgh-Haamstede, a place that is mainly known as a tourist area. In the summer many people find their way to the beaches. Here you will also find Haamstede Castle. You cycle back to Renesse through the nature of the Gadra Bos and Heideveld

Ouddorp, Renesse, Scharendijke

Once designed as a connecting route between the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Goeree-Overflakkee; Now the Brouwersdam is a place full of adventure and relaxation. The six kilometer long dam connects the southernmost island of South Holland with Zeeland. It is part of the Delta Works. It has been open to the public since 1971 and has now become a popular place for recreation.

With the Grevelingen on one side and the North Sea on the other, the Brouwersdam is perfect for water sports and relaxation. There are beautiful nature reserves at both ends of the dam. Around Ouddorp you cycle from Het Volgerland to D’Onlanden and De Punt. All three areas form a colorful sea of ​​blooming orchids from spring to June. Spoonbills, reed buntings, reed warblers and skylarks fly happily.

You can also cycle through beautiful dunes and along the wide sandy beach of Renesse on the Zeeland side of the Brouwersdam. Bring your binoculars and admire the many birds and perhaps a seal from the various viewpoints! In any case, you can enjoy the varied dune landscape and the vibrant coastal life on the Brouwersdam with this cycle route.
